Joint inversion of temperature, vitrinite reflectance and fission tracks in apatite with examples from the eastern North Sea area

As sediment accumulation indicates basin subsidence, erosion often is understood as tectonic uplift, but the amplitude and timing may be difficult to determine because sedimentary record missing. Quantification of therefore requires indirect evidence, for example thermal indicators such temperature, vitrinite reflectance fission tracks in apatite. However, always, types quality data choice models are important results. For example, considering only evolution section discards time constant lithosphere essentially ignores temporal continuity structure. Furthermore, density solution space deposition erosion, quantification which calls use inverse methods, can successful when all mutually consistent. Here, we integrated modelling Markov Chain Monte Carlo inversion four deep boreholes show that erosional pattern along Sorgenfrei–Tornquist Zone (STZ) eastern North Sea consistent with a model based on compression relaxation an elastic plate. Three wells close proximity SW STZ have different exhibit characteristic differences estimates formation thick chalk sequence, followed by minor Cenozoic during inversion. The well ridge ca. 1.7 km Jurassic-Early Cretaceous sedimentation Late Cretaceous–Palaeocene No demands equivalent significant Neogene exhumation. When high consistent, indicator method yields results geodynamic implications.
